1. Overview of the functions of the post:

Under the overall guidance of the Director of UNESCO Office for Iraq and the direct supervision of the SENIOR FINANCE AND LOGISTICS ASSISTANT, the incumbent provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring high accuracy of work to the authorized UNESCO/UN personnel, including senior and high-ranking officials and visitors

2. Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible for:
1. Drive official vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel as well as delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items as requested;
2. Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required;
3. Ensure constant awareness of security measures in force and strictly abide by established security rules and regulations;
4. Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles to ensure roadworthiness;
5. Perform minor repairs, arrange for other repairs, and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean;
6. Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, service, etc.;
7. Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident;
8. Any other duties as required.
The contract holder undertakes to carry out these tasks with care and diligence, and to comply with the instructions of his/her manager.
UNESCO may assign additional tasks to the contract holder or may modify his/hers tasks without the contract holder’s consent, provided those tasks are consistent with his/her function as set out above.

3. Expected results and duration of the assignment:

The incumbent determines the itineraries of the trip and the expected duration of the journey. This requires the exercise of some judgement and the making of choices from different accepted alternatives (choices of route, observance of security instructions and procedures… etc.). The incumbent needs to exercise care and safety precautions in driving sometimes in difficult conditions. The post requires knowledge of local driving rules and regulations, local environment and knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and repairs.

Typical work involves moderate risks and the need to exercise care and safety precautions in driving. The incumbent may need to drive long or odd hours or drive on weekends when meeting official personnel at the airport, or when driving officials at official functions. Dense traffic, difficult driving conditions and traffic hazard may make the work strenuous. Occasionally the incumbent may lift heavy equipment, luggage… etc.

The work of the incumbent affects indirectly on the work of others outside the immediate unit; his actions can impact on the work and image of the Office as a whole. Accidents may have fatal consequences. His decisions can also affect the work (e.g. arriving on time for appointments) of senior officials, other staff and the other Office drivers. The incumbent also acts as a member of the team providing office support.

Initially a 3-month probation contract, extendable subject to satisfactory performance in line with the validity of the project and availability of fund.

5. Required Qualifications:

Academic qualifications:

• Completion of secondary education / apprenticeship.

Years of relevant work experience:

• Minimum of two (2) years in similar position, preferably with an international or UN organization.

Language requirements:

• Native Arabic Or Kurdish speaker – oral, written, comprehension
• Fluent in English – oral, written, comprehension

Competencies:

Functional/Technical Competencies

General competencies:

• Must possess a valid Professional Driving License.
• Security and/or First Aid training would be an asset.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interact with the public with tact and good judgment and to safeguard information is required.

6. Desirable Qualifications:

Academic qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field would be an asset.

Years of relevant work experience:

• Experience with international organizations in the same field would be an advantage.
