Background and Organizational Context

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Administration (Damascus) or Head of Sub Office (sub-offices), the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services and clerical administration assistance to OCHA Syria and ensures high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact, and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

 Position Purpose

Key Duties and Accountabilities

Under the day-to-day supervision of the Head of Administration or Head of Sub Office, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

Carries out driving duties as instructed by the authorizing staff. No service vehicle will be driven unless authorized by the supervising personnel. Safely Pick up and drop off the staff during all working days and drive them on official trips in and outside of the city. As directed by the direct supervisor and according to the security and transportation procedures of the UN. Ensuring safe and on-time arrival of staff to the duty station/destinations and back as required. Remain flexible for traveling outside of the city and working additional hours if required. Full compliance with the implementation of all security measures for the passengers and the vehicle during all the trips regardless of the location, destination, and distance of travel. Checks weekly vehicle schedule for the office (missions, transport needs), arrangements. The driver must ensure the validity of the driving license when on driving duties. Follow traffic rules, regulations, and laws at all times. Ensure complies with all road traffic regulations (wearing of seat belts). Ensure maintenance and keeping of the vehicle functionality at all times, focusing on achievement of the following results: Ensures that allocated vehicle(s) are kept hygienic and the interiors tidy. Ensure proper maintenance of the vehicle, and regular checking of the vehicle parts, as described on the driver’s checklist. Ensures that all equipment and accessories and in good order and status. The driver is responsible for all loading and unloading of goods into the vehicle and ensures their security and condition while in the vehicle.

Maintain the vehicle Log Book properly filled out and updated with fleet information as well as invoices for fuel and maintenance of the vehicle and make sure it is signed by the authorizing officer incl. daily mileage trips, Gas consumption, oil changes, greasing). Submit the Log Book at the end of every month. Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs, and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean and ready for use. Suggests and reports on appropriate services or repairs. Supervises maintenance works of assigned AV and other work carried out at the office by external parties (electricians, painters, plumbers). Report immediately to direct supervisor of any accidents, mechanical failure occurring and completes necessary reports. Use radio communication and carry out tasks as directed by the supervisor and remain vigilant and professional all the time. Carries out any delivery or collection duties as may be necessary (official mail, letters cheques, visas, minor procurements, etc…). The driver should make sure that fulfilment of tasks is carried out with full care preserving the confidentiality of all matters related to OCHA’s operations. Carries out any other duties that may reasonably or exceptionally be required to ensure the smooth operation such as carrying out administrative tasks, etc Knowledge in Aleppo geographical location and distribution of sub districts is an asset. Perform any other relevant duties as required.

Requirements:

Education

A High School diploma and a Valid Driving License.

 Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

Three(3) years of relevant experience as a driver is required. Relevant experience in driving various types of vehicles including armored vehicles is required. Relevant experience in safe driving record, knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and skills in minor vehicle repair is highly desirable. Proficiency in completing routing documents, forms, logbooks etc  is highly desirable. Female candidates are encouraged to apply.

Good Knowledge of oral and written Arabic and English is required.
