JOB SUMMARY The Director of Outreach and Communications will implement the objectives of the Coalition in partnership with the Director of Government Relations and under the supervision of the BEC Board of Directors. The Director of Outreach and Communications will have principle responsibility for convening technical experts, facilitating knowledge sharing, coordinating sector-wide advocacy, and executing a communications strategy. This job will include significant engagement with diverse BEC members, policymakers, and other leaders of the international education sector.
BEC is housed in InterAction, in Washington, D.C. and this position will be based in Washington D.C.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach • Facilitate networking and collaboration among a diverse group of leading international education experts through management of technical working groups. Current working groups include: Early Childhood Education, Monitoring & Evaluation, Gender & Girls’ Education, and EdTech. • Develop and maintain productive relationships with the USAID Education Office in support of implementation of the 2017 USG Strategy for International Education and the 2018 USAID Education Policy. • Plan, organize, and lead BEC events, including BEC board and working group meetings, public events, briefings, etc. • Represent the Coalition at events, meetings, and seminars held by member organizations or other relevant education or advocacy groups. • Recruit new members and respond to membership inquiries.
Communications • Create and implement a new communications plan to support Coalition objectives. • Work collaboratively with the Director of Government Relations and Coalition members to develop an array of strategic advocacy materials including talking points, fact sheets, success stories, policy briefs and recommendations, press releases, etc. • Manage the organization’s online presence including the official website (Squarespace), Twitter, and Instagram accounts. • Publish the International Basic Education Update, an electronic newsletter via Mailchimp.

Organizational Leadership • Share responsibilities with the Director of Government Relations for thought leadership and operation of a successful 501(c)3 organization. This will include shared management of Coalition finances and administrative duties.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Commitment to the Coalition’s mission: Promote expanded, equitable access to quality basic education so that all children have the chance to learn • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in one of the following or related fields: Communications, Journalism, Education, Foreign Affairs, Government, International Affairs, International Education, International Relations, International Development, or Political Science • Minimum six years work experience in a related field • Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills. Ability to conduct, compile, analyze, and synthesize research. • Superior organizational skills and acute attention to detail; ability to solve problems, set priorities, meet deadlines, and handle a variety of responsibilities efficiently and effectively. • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, prioritize deliverables, and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines. • Motivation and willingness to take initiative, build and sustain a network of active members, explore opportunities for new partnerships, and assume responsibility for executing activities.
REPORTING The Basic Education Coalition is an independent 501(c)3 hosted by InterAction. This position will report to the co-chairs of the BEC Board of Directors.
