As conflict surges, forced displacement reaches shocking new levels, and the climate crisis compounds cycles of violence and fragility, peacebuilding is needed more than ever. This mission drives International Alert: through better understanding what really drives violent conflict, we can better support the people and communities most impacted to build peace.

The Director will help the global International Alert family grow our presence, impact and influence as an expert in peacebuilding – an organization that not only builds evidence for what works and conducts effective advocacy but makes a real difference on the ground in fragile and conflict-hit places, while heading up International Alert Europe, established as Stichting International Alert in The Hague, strengthening our influence and partnerships with key European institutions and peacebuilding supporters, including in the Netherlands, Sweden, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland and France. The Director will also represent International Alert with European Union institutions based in Brussels, serving as a member of International Alert’s global executive leadership.

We are seeking an experienced, strategic leader, equally able to manage the duties involved with being the senior officer of an organization, the demands of high-level representation and advocacy with key partners and policymakers in government, and the aspiration to grow our funding support and deliver greater impact through high quality programming. You will possess a high degree of emotional intelligence, entrepreneurial flair, and strong analytical capacity. You have a talent for building the profile of a global organization. Ideally, you will have extensive experience, at senior level, of working with a Board and other senior colleagues, change management, and effective policy representation.

International Alert is a highly respected global actor in peacebuilding. This role offers great challenge and opportunity. Please join us and play a key role in delivering greater impact, stronger influence, and growing resources.
