The Opportunity

This is a sectoral head position, reporting to the Deputy Country Director-Program Operations, has overall responsibility for leading the Save the Children in Bangladesh's education sector including the Cox's Bazar response program. Technical areas consisting primarily of early childhood care and development, early grade reading, girls post primary & secondary, refugee education, multi-lingual education, ICT in education and non-formal basic education programs. S/he will identify needs and opportunities for potential programs, through situation analysis/feasibility studies, networking, and leveraging research and evaluation findings from both internal and external sources, including identify and pursue opportunities for synergistic, inter-sectoral programs to address the holistic needs of children.

S/he will play a lead role in setting the strategic direction for the education sector, design new programs and projects, identifying and pursing strategic partnerships. The Director is also responsible for ensuring program quality and donor accountability for a range of projects, and directly supervise project/program directors, COPs and implementation teams. In addition, for ensuring effective advocacy, s/he will coordinate with the relevant Government authorities/ Ministries/Directorates and other key national and international stakeholders, and work on a regular basis with SC members and internal stakeholders to maximize program delivery. S/he will also ensure all projects have an effective Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning (MEAL) mechanism throughout the project cycle and ensure financial oversight of project and thematic budgets, maintaining timely expenditure in line with agreed priorities and donor guidelines. Responsibilities include, s/he will be identifying partnerships/collaborations and build strong networks with other NGOs, CSOs, donors, UN agencies and academic institutions and the private sector working on education.

Qualifications and experience

  • At least 10 years working experience, preferably in education related programs including 05 years in senior management position.
  • S/he is expected to have strong leadership abilities, excellent understanding of key issues and strategies in Early Childhood Development and Basic Education programs, formal and non-formal Education, inclusive education theories.
  • Strong analytical capacity and proficiency in understanding of both qualitative & quantitative research methods.
  • Excellent skills on process facilitation & coordination with high standard,
  • Excellent communication skills both in English and Bangla with the ability to represent in different forums
  • Strong budget analysis skills with partner evaluation process and management
  • Master's Degree, preferably in Education or relevant discipline.
