The Community Management and Moderation role resides in the Digital Strategy Section within UNICEF's Division of Global Communication and Advocacy (DGCA). The Section consists of the Web Editorial, Digital Governance and Web Platforms, Social Media, and Digital Marketing and Partnerships teams, all working together to create compelling public-facing content and to provide expert digital services and capacity building within the organization.

Through multiple platforms and in multiple languages, the Digital Strategy Section (DSS) draws attention to the many facets of UNICEF’s work, encouraging public support, participation and action, as well as ensuring greater transparency and accountability. We create and deliver compelling content to international audiences of parents, young people and UNICEF supporters, building engaged communities in multiple languages across social media and web platforms, while providing expert digital services to the organization.

How can you make a difference?

Content moderation and community management: daily and campaign

Undertake a daily review of comments posted on all channels managed by the GCA Social Media Editorial Team (across all languages), as well as ‘dark ads’. Engage with UNICEF’s audience as per moderation and community management best practice.   Produce a weekly report with insights from the weekly moderation and community management that demonstrates audience insight, sentiment, and areas of potential risk as well opportunity based on frequently asked questions. Support Social Media team members in the preparation and implementation of moderation and community management strategies for different activations and key moments, including user-generated calls to action.

 Brand risk and crisis communication

As part of the daily review, assess comments for potential risk (for example, an increase in comments about a particular incident or negative sentiment on a particular subject). Feed into risk reports to inform response and crisis communication as needed. Work with the Digital Analytics team to coordinate insights from channel moderation with social listening.  Add key words to filters across all UNICEF channels managed by GCA’s Social Media Team.

 Audience insights and analysis

As part of the daily review, assess how content is being received and provide insights to the Social Media Team and DSS Editorial on content that is receiving high engagement and positive sentiment. As part of flagship campaigns, produce qualitative and quantitative reports and present back to the team based on community engagement with content.

Capacity Building

Develop best practice moderation guidelines and resources, and update the Social Media team's Community Management Guidelines, Digital Labs guidance and other moderation resources. Develop and help lead related webinars and other forms of capacity building activities.

Support with social media Editorial Tasks

Support the social media (across all languages) in reviewing content, scheduling and ‘final check’ processes. Support the social media in the development of content during times of increased capacity needs, including during emergencies.

Impact of Results

UNICEF builds engagement and trust with global audiences through community engagement. More effective daily and campaign content that is informed by audience-insights.
