Job description

On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, GIZ implements the ‘Sport for Development in Africa’ Regional Project (S4DA) in selected sub-Saharan countries from 10/2022 to 06/2025. S4DA uses sport and physical activity as an engaging tool to promote gender equality, the transformation of stereotypical gender roles, the inclusion of people with disabilities while promoting social and job-relevant competences of children and youth. The Olympafrica Foundation (OAF) is one of the main implementation partners in Senegal as well as at the regional level of the project. Created in 1989, OAF promotes the social development of young people through sport, under the auspices of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa. Its initiatives, which are carried out in partnership with various sports organisations, are being implemented in some 40 centres in more than 35 African countries.

Your tasks

Close collaboration with OAF and assisting with programme development and implementation to sustainably embed the S4D approach across the OAF network Contribution to the improvement of extra-curricular ‘Sport for Development’ activities at the OAF Centers in Senegal (and beyond), enabling teachers, coaches and educators to communicate and teach important values and job-relevant life skills using sports, promoting gender equality, the inclusion of people with disabilities and the personal development of children and youth Supporting OAF in developing Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning framework, processes and tools to assess and report on the impact of S4D activities across the network Assisting OAF in the elaboration of safeguarding principles, processes and tools for its Centers to ensure that sport and physical activities are conducted in an environment which is free of harm and abuse while creating safe spaces for all

Your profile

University degree in sport-, social science, gender studies, humanities, politics Experience and knowledge in the field of ‘Sport for Development‘, especially regarding programme design and qualification of coaches Experience and knowledge in designing and using monitoring, evaluation and learning processes and tools Experience and knowledge in promoting gender equality, the socio-economic development of girls/women and/or the inclusion of people with disabilities Knowledge in organisational development and the ability to advise Proactive behaviour and the ability to work independently Fluency in French and English

Location information

Place of employment is Dakar. Climate: There is a subtropical climate, with peaks of up to 40°C inland and cooler temperatures during the rainy season. In the northern part of the country (Sahel), the annual rainy season usually lasts from about July to September, in subtropical Casamance usually from May to October. In the rainy season it is also hot and humid. Health care: Basic health care is guaranteed. French-speaking specialists are available. Plannable operations should be carried out in Germany or Europe. For emergencies, various clinics in Dakar come into consideration. There is an increased risk of malaria during the rainy season. Shopping and utilities, leisure: The supply situation in Dakar is very good.

The security situation requires heightened vigilance. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. GIZ runs a professional security risk management system in the field of deployment. The working environment is subject to special restrictions on the freedom of movement. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment.
