Context:

The Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC) is part of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and responsible for providing all stakeholders with a better understanding of global migration data. GMDAC is involved in a variety of tasks including data analysis, capacity building and knowledge management.

Under the overall supervision of the Director of GMDAC and direct supervision of the Senior Knowledge Management Coordinator, maintaining the Global Migration Data Portal, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the dashboard and analysing migration data for expert and non-expert audiences.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain, update, expand and improve the dashboard of the Global Migration Data Portal to ensure quality control by uploading new data and updating existing content.

  2. Analyze, summarize and synthesize migration data and information, thereby contributing to content development for the Global Migration Data Portal, in particular the Covid-19 section and thematic pages.

  3. Contribute to the development of content for new regional overviews to assist in increasing outreach and engagement with regional offices by featuring relevant content for them.

  4. Support the Knowledge and Coordination Unit in project implementation, monitoring and reporting to secure sustainable funding by backstopping deliverables and supporting reporting.

  5. Backstop the process of translating key parts of the Portal into French, Spanish and German for outreach.

  6. Upload new Portal content from the backend to keep it updated.

  7. Review and provide technical inputs to support communication activities related to the Portal.

  8. Provide information on the Global Migration Data Portal in relevant meetings and events, and provide data and information to support the preparation of presentations by the Director of GMDAC and the Senior Programme Coordinator, as required.

  9. Undertake other data analysis duties as requested.

  10. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, Law, Economics and/or International Relations or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• Experienced team player, detail-oriented and ability to deliver outputs under agreed deadline and competing priorities;

• Experience in liaising with governmental authorities as well as with national and international institutions;

• Experience and sound understanding of internal and international migration data issues globally.

Skills

• Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently;

• Strong organizational skills;

• Knowledge of international migration data sources, statistics and analysis;

• Knowledge of statistical software (i.e. STATA, SPSS, R);

• Excellent critical thinking and writing skills;

• Familiarity with Content Management Systems, such as Drupal, added advantage.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN Language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian or Chinese).

For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of

German is an advantage.
