Context
The climate and environment crisis is the defining challenge of our generation. NRC recognises our own responsibility to minimise harm to the environment caused by our greenhouse gas emissions and direct impact of our programmes on the local environment. A Strategic Enabler: “Reduced Environmental Footprint” is part of NRC’s Global Strategy 2022-25.
An important factor for NRC to achieve our objectives is monitoring our environmental impact and providing data that can track our progress and inform decisions to reduce emissions. NRC has calculated a baseline emissions footprint for 2019 based on the international GHG Protocol and now needs to move forward with regular monitoring, reporting and communication of data. Understanding our baseline has enabled us to be strategic, think creatively and prioritise our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. Utilising many different systems as centralised data sources, we aim to creatively minimise impact of data collection on our country teams. Looking forward, we want to improve and innovate to develop areas of environmental impact data such as for waste, procurement, and transportation to inform action.

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. We work in crises across more than 31 countries, providing emergencies and long-term assistance to millions of people every year. We stand up for people forced to flee, advocating their rights. NORCAP, our global provider of expertise, helps improve international and local ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from crises. NRC also runs the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre in Geneva, a global leader in reporting on and advocating for people displaced within their own country.
Employment with NRC may lead to employment in or deployment to Regions, Countries, Areas or Offices that may be host to considerable health, safety and security risks. NRC takes this very seriously and we have procedures in place to reduce known risks, but will never be able to take away all risks.
NRC is an equal opportunities employer and aims to have staffing diversity in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, nationality and physical ability.
