Tetra Tech International Development Services (http://www.tetratech.com/intdev) is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a Curriculum Design Specialist position on an anticipated USAID-funded Regional Disaster Assistance Program (RDAP) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). RDAP’s primary objective is to build disaster management and risk reduction capacity to improve the ability of host nations and regional entities to effectively respond to disasters, reducing the human consequences of disasters and the need for U.S. government assistance. In LAC, USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) office provides support to risk management programs through its regional office in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Position Description/Summary:

The Curriculum Design Specialist will work closely with a Training Specialist to support the design of new courses and the project training curriculum, including e-learning development and design, applying new and impactful approaches to adult education. The CDS will liaise with relevant RDAP stakeholders in the project team to develop and deliver high-quality training programs and customized curricula in support of project priorities. The CDS will work closely with a Training Specialist to design standard and customized training curricula for a variety of technical modules in the emergency management, disaster response, risk reduction, and humanitarian assistance sectors. The Curriculum Development Specialist will also provide technical assistance to local counterparts to build stakeholder capacity for instructional design as needed.

Responsibilities include:
* Utilize knowledge of adult education theory, various learning styles, and effective information design principles to maximize learner success and ensure the overall effectiveness of the training program.

* Work with project technical staff to develop drills and exercises and identify both capability gaps and areas for improvement to be met by these activities.

*Ensure curricula, teaching objectives, comprehension, use of materials and applied practice meet program standards; supervise and/or train qualified trainers and directly provide training where needed in both virtual and in-person settings.

*Research, develop, and review training curricula and certification programs, guidance documents, lesson plans, and manuals with technical staff and training teams to identify priorities, gaps, areas for improvement or expansion.
* Coordinate training and educational activities with program stakeholders at regional and national level and provide logistical support as needed for training activities and related events;

Qualifications:

*Bachelor’s degree in related field required; Master’s degree preferred

*Five years of relevant job experience, including a minimum of 2 years of on-the-job experience

supporting, coordinating, or implementing training programs, preferably in the humanitarian or

emergency management sectors.

*Demonstrated instructional design and curriculum development experience, including experience implementing adult learning approaches. Knowledge of drill and exercise design concepts strongly preferred.

* Knowledge of current, effective education and training approaches including adult learning, on-site, blended, and distance learning platforms and tools, and non-traditional education.

*Experience incorporating research and practice into the process of developing and implementing instructional strategies. Experience applying virtual or e-learning modalities strongly preferred.

*Excellent strategic planning; project design and management; and technical leadership skills relevant to adult learning across sectors.

*Professional Fluency in English and Spanish required.
