Oxfam has been working in Niger since 1992 to promote good governance and active citizenship, support vulnerable populations that have been victims of disasters and conflicts, and contribute to strengthening their food security. Our vision of change is a fair Niger without poverty, where all citizens (men, women and youth) have the power and means to exercise their fundamental human rights and have control over their lives. All our interventions are supported by influencing work, actions to promote gender justice, and the development of strategic partnerships with local and international organizations.
Given the context in Niger and in connection with the Sahel strategy, Oxfam has the opportunity to further assert its added value and expertise by making an approach based on inequalities the basis of its programming and its campaigns on the field and thereby develop visibility of Oxfam's approach and related action.
It is obvious that inequalities constitute a breeding ground for frustration and conflict. In accordance with its dual humanitarian and development mandate. Niger will combine humanitarian interventions with its development, peace and influence work to tackle the root causes of inequalities (triple nexus). This unique program approach will allow Oxfam in Niger to meet direct needs but also achieve lasting effects for people living in the most vulnerable situations, especially young people and women, by addressing the root causes of inequality, vulnerabilities and fragility.
The Country Director will be responsible to implement Oxfam Vision which aims to create a stronger Oxfam that is globally coordinated and relevant in every country in which we work. Oxfam Novib is Executing Affiliate for the Oxfam program in Niger.
In order to help drive and deliver this ambitious vision in Niger, we are currently seeking an outstanding and distinctive Country Director. This leader will have demonstrable strategic and creative leadership, management and coordination skills in a network setting, a multi-cultural worldview and understand the systemic challenges and strengths of being a global organization.
Excellent communication skills, including fluency in French and English are essential.
