Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, Technology and Innovation Section, Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, and the overall guidance of Chief and Economic Affairs Officer of the Technology and Innovation Section, TIID, the responsibilities of the consultant will be:

1) Conduct desk research and compile existing data and evidence on access to financing for women entrepreneurs in Nepal.

2) Carry out key informant interviews and/or group consultations with women entrepreneurs, financial service providers, policymakers and other stakeholders.

3) Draft a report on access to finance for women entrepreneurs in Nepal highlighting:
a. Available data on the women entrepreneurs’ access to financing in Nepal vis-a-vis their male peers and related gender gaps
b. The main obstacles faced by women entrepreneurs in accessing financing, incl. key barriers across the spectrum of women entrepreneurs, as well as the specific barriers faced by women entrepreneurs
i. Of different levels of maturity, size and growth ambitions (micro vs. small vs. medium-sized vs. large companies, MSMEs vs. start-ups)
ii. In priority value chains, including the pashmina and coffee value chains
iii. Facing multiple barriers, including women entrepreneurs operating in the informal economy, located in remote areas, from ethnic minorities, with disabilities, and from the LGBTQI community.
c. Existing initiatives to increase access to financing for women entrepreneurs in Nepal, incl. relevant policies, government schemes, as well as effective initiatives by the private sector, civil society and development partners
d. Policy recommendations for addressing gender gaps and enhancing access to financing for women entrepreneurs in Nepal
e. Key data gaps and recommendations for further research

4) Present initial findings to key stakeholders for feedback and revise the report accordingly.

5) Present the main findings in a launch event of the report.

The report produced by the consultant will be written in English and will be approximately 35 pages, excluding any annex and references, times new roman 12 single space. Qualifications/special skills

Bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy, or another relevant field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience conducting research and analysis and/or policy advice on financing/ access to finance and related topics in Nepal.
Experience and expertise related to gender dimensions of financing and/or women’s entrepreneurship would be an advantage. Languages

Excellent command of written and spoken English and Nepali.
