International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, on behalf of International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for an assignment under project titled \"Generating Revenues & Opportunities for Women to Improve Nutrition in Ghana (GROWING)\". One person each will be placed in Nalerigu, Chereponi, Daboya and Saboba.

Project Background

The GROWING project has a significant agricultural component, setting up the seed system for orange-fleshed sweetpotatoes and assuring their distribution and use, and training farmers on the use of moringa, papaya, amaranth, and a legume crop as well (groundnut or soybean). The program is led by a master\u2019s level agronomist supported by the Project Manager, who is a dryland agriculture specialist. In addition to working on the seed system and the development of market-oriented value chains, there will be trainings on climate-smart practices to have more sustainable production systems over time and improved harvest and post-harvest management of these nutritious crops. There will be a need to monitor participation in these trainings, and monitor selected indicators related to environmental management. The Community Facilitator Consultant will be helping with conducting orientation sessions in the communities, training sweetpotato vine multipliers, conducting step-down trainings of community-based agricultural extensionists and government and NGO extension personnel, monitoring participation in all activities, collecting survey data in markets and communities and assisting in training and supporting the market linkage component between the farmers and traders. This is a position for a field-oriented person with in-depth knowledge of the local language in the target communities he/she services and excellent facilitation skills.

Objective of the Assignment

To ensure quality transmission on knowledge between scientists and extension personnel and between extension personnel and farmers, ensuring that all trainings are gender-responsive, through implementing quality training workshops and on-the-job training systems To ensure the building of a quality evidence base by collecting key performance management and impact indicators for the project. To ensure the timely delivery of quality seed of designated nutritious food crops used by the project.

Scope of Work

Tasks will be agreed upon monthly with the main coordinator, based on a written workplan submitted at least one week prior to the end of each month.

Tasks will include:

Conduct orientation sessions with community leaders and the communities themselves Conduct trainings of NGO and government extension personnel and backstop step-down trainings of community-based extension agents (CBEAs), including the use of digital tools Train and supervise decentralized vine multipliers within target areas, employing the seed tracking tool Procure and deliver seed of nutritious foods to designated Clubs Train and support local traders aligned to the project (Healthy Food Connectors) Train and support Nutritious Food Corps agents based in designated local markets Collect key indicators for the project, including those for the environmental management plan upon request Collect monthly price data in designated markets Translate project training materials into the local language Write bi-weekly (twice a month) progress reports Write one \u201cstory from the field\u201d every quarter reflecting project progress


Duration: 12 months from November 2022 to October 2023

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following:

Qualifications

Essential

Certificate or Higher Diploma in Agriculture or closely related field or Higher National Diploma

Desirable

Evidence of short-term trainings in gender awareness, facilitation skills, use of digital tools, sweetpotato cultivation, nutrition, and environmental management

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

At least two years of experience in working as an extension agent or community facilitator Experience working on value chains (production and marketing) of at least one crop grown in Northern Ghana

Desirable

Experience in post-harvest management of crops preferred Good knowledge of crop management of legumes and roots and tuber grown in Northern Ghana Experience in collecting household survey data as an enumerator Knowledge of small livestock production (Cavies, poultry, rabbits, guinea fowl)

Skills and Abilities

Essential

Fluent in speaking Dagbani, Likpakpa, Gonja, Mampruli, or Chekosi. Excellent group communication and facilitation skills Ability to communicate and write reports in English well Good computer skills and ability to use EXCEL Good planning and problem-solving skills Ability to ride motorcycle Must be currently resident or willing to reside in Nalerigu (East Mamprusi district), Chereponi (Chereponi District), Daboya (North Gonja District), or Saboba (Saboba District).

Desirable

Ability to write well in any of the local languages specified above. Capacity to use digital tools for data collection Female candidates especially encouraged to apply
