Program Overview

WRI Indonesia hosted the secretariat of Indonesia’s National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP), as part of the Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP) which initiated by the World Economic Forum (WEF), as a bold neutral platform responsible for coordinating and facilitating the public-private partnerships working to free the world from plastic waste and pollution. The initiative aims to tackle one of the most difficult and pressing challenges facing our global commons – plastics pollution – in particular the plastic pollution of rivers, deltas and the ocean. The Government of Indonesia has made significant step by committing to reduce plastics pollution to the ocean by 70% by 2025. GPAP is supporting Indonesia to reduce plastic pollution to the ocean through National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP). The partnership brings together top leaders from government, private sectors and civil society organizations to contribute in achieving national ocean plastic reduction target.

The secretariat of Indonesia’s National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP), hosted at the World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia, is looking for a Communication & Social Media Specialist to support the Secretariat in enhancing growing NPAP activities. The role will be based in Indonesia. This position will report to the CECO Communications Lead and coordinate closely with NPAP Engagement Specialist, NPAP team at WRI Indonesia and GPAP team at the World Economic Forum.

The Communications & Social Media Specialist will support the NPAP Secretariat by implementing communications strategies, managing multiple communications channels (such as website, blog, publications, media relations, and events). The Communications & Social Media Specialist will proactively collaborate with the program team on related works. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, sharp analytical thinking, and be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively engage with various national, sub-national, and international stakeholders.

Job Highlights

  • The Communications & Social Media Specialist will report directly to the Senior Communications Coordinator for Digital Media and Content Development while working closely with the rest of Communications team and NPAP project team.
  • The office based for this position is Jakarta, Indonesia.
  • Flexible working arrangement remain applicable (Teleworking) by referring to WRI Indonesia policy and procedure
  • Possibility of conducting a duty travel when required

    Job Responsibilities

    • Implement communications strategies pertaining to the National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) initiative. The implementation of communication strategies comprises of but is not limited to communications materials development, events management, media engagement, video development, writing, and social media engagement.
    • Develop and implement creative campaigns to increase awareness and improve stakeholders’ participation towards NPAP.
    • Coordinate with the Climate, Energy, Cities and Ocean (CECO) Communication Lead and the NPAP team to support and manage communications strategies for reports, events, conferences, and news opportunities including media content
    • Develop ideas, write, and edit a variety of internal and external materials, such as blog posts, media materials, newsletters, op-eds, website content, and more
    • Engage with third-party vendors and consultants

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other relevant fields; Master’s degree highly preferred.
      • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience especially instrategic communications works.
      • prior working experience in a global organization
      • Experience in working with reporters or members of the media (and established media contacts)
      • Having an interest and experience in ocean or another environment-related topic in Indonesia preferred.
      • Professional writing experience: producing report, op-ed, blogpost, etc
      • Social media savvy, experienced in developing and implementing a social media strategy that are useful, valuable, and relevant to the project and its audiences.
      • Having skill in photography, graphic design, and ability to operate any graphics editor software are desirable.
      • Legally able to work in Indonesia.

        Deliverables

        Monthly consolidated report on delivery, achievement, and lessons learned. Other deliverables include but not limited to:

        1. Project communications strategies development and implementation
        2. Activation activities implementation and analysis report of each activity.
        3. Communications materials development
        4. Contribute in the development of project’s product knowledge and reporting activities, including monthly report, quarterly report and annual report particularly on communication aspect
        5. Monthly report on social media channels strategy and performance

          Duration

          Initial contract up to January 2023 with possibility of extension subject to individual performance evaluation, project needs, and budget availability.

          Terms of Payment

          Daily-rate based consultant with maximum 18 (eighteen) working days per month in average

          Contract Arrangement

          Individual consultancy contract (Part-time, limited term)

            Final candidates might be required to take a writing test and to produce two writing samples when needed.
