Job description

The Civil Peace Service (ZFD) is a global program for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. ZFD professionals provide long-term support to local partners in their commitment to dialogue, human rights and peace. The ZFD country program \"Dialogue and Transparency for Human Rights and Nonviolent Conflict Transformation in Honduras\" supports the team of the Comisión de Acción Social Menonita (CASM) in Santa Bárbara through capacity building on conflict transformation and mediation. With the approach to work on conflicts over the use of natural resources (forestry, water, mining), the actors involved are empowered to analyze the specific local conflicts and to deal with them through intersectoral dialogue initiatives and mediation.

Your tasks

Conducting a needs assessment within the local partner organization, strengthening their conceptual skills and advice the organization on methodologies and approaches to conflict transformation Conducting a conflict and needs assessment for the project region, taking into account local dialogue traditions Advise in planning, budgeting and implementation of project activities Design and implementation of a training program in dialogue and mediation for key actors from civil society and governmental institutions of the project region Support the establishment of a network of dialogue facilitators and ownership of the partner organization and key actors in applying community-based development approaches to conflict prevention and conflict transformation. Support the development of dialogue and mediation formats as well as the process of implementation at district level Documentation and systematization of successful dialogue initiatives, evaluation of lessons learned.

Your profile

Degree in political, social or educational sciences, ethnology, peace and conflict studies or comparable qualification; additional knowledge and experience in mediation is desirable Advanced knowledge and experience in methods and concepts of civil conflict transformation, preferably applied in socio-political dialogue processes or in the context of dealing with conflicts over natural resources Knowledge and experience in the conception, facilitation, and support of interactive workshops as well as the design of reflection and learning processes. Advanced intercultural communication and networking skills, sensitivity, as well as beeing convinced that dialogue is a suitable way for social change Knowledge in the field of Do-No-Harm and Gender is desirable Empathetic and team-oriented, as well as independent and proactive working approach Enjoy working in the field as well as high commitment and frustration tolerance Regional knowledge of Latin America and fluency in Spanish and German or English

Location and Residence: Santa Bárbara; district town in the north of Honduras; approx. 50,000 inhabitants Climate: Tropically warm with distinctive dry and rainy season Health care: General medical care as well as specialist care is available locally, good hospitals in San Pedro Sula (1.5h) and Tegucigalpa (4h) Shopping facilities: Very good supply with all necessary everyday needs, mailing of special products from San Pedro possible. Accessibility: International airport in San Pedro Sula (1.5h) or Tegucigalpa (4h) School situation and childcare: There are no international schools on site, bilingual private schools (English/Spanish) are available. For families with small children, there are options for private childcare by individuals/Babysitter. Recreation: Cultural activities in several neighboring communities of Santa Bárbara (mural painting, theater), hiking activities in the National Park Montaña de Santa Bárbara as well as in the National Park Cerro Azul Meámbar (PANACAM), fresh water and thermal baths. The nearby Yojoa Lake and the Pulhapanzak Waterfall are attractive touristic sites. Others: By national standards, Santa Barbara is a rather quiet and safe town with relatively high freedom of movement
