Lifting Hands International is looking for a kids programme manager from the end of April/ start of May, for a minimum of 3 months, to run our CFS (child-friendly space). For consistency reasons, the willingness to stay 6 months is an asset.

Background:

Lifting Hands International provides education, fitness, yoga and other psychosocial activities for the residents of Serres Refugee camps. The Child Friendly Space (CFS) was established in 2018 to provide a safe space for children aged 2 to 6 and provide psychosocial support activities. The CFS manager is responsible for the daily operation of the space, as well as planning and executing psychosocial support activities for three hours per day. The centre operates five days a week from Thursday- Monday.

The main focus for the CFS manager is running our CFS for children aged 2 - 6 year old. Additionally, there is the potential that the manager would oversee activities for school aged children during school holidays.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 7 volunteers both international and resident volunteers.

  • Provide initial training and continued support for all kids' team volunteers at LHI (you will conduct weekly 'check-ins' to discuss any hurdles, listen to feedback and brainstorm new ideas for the space).

  • Mediate between CFS volunteers when necessary.

  • Brief and debrief volunteers for each daily schedule.

  • Devise weekly schedules and ensure all activities are prepared in advance by fairly dividing responsibilities among kids' team volunteers.

  • Ensure there are enough varied activities to keep children engaged, entertained and safe.

  • Ensure all LHI volunteers receive appropriate safeguarding training on arrival.

  • Report conflict or safeguarding concerns to field coordinator when necessary.

  • Monitor budget and source all required resources (arts and crafts materials, games and toys, cleaning products etc.).

  • Attend all team and leadership meetings/plan and lead the CFS weekly team meeting

  • Submit concise weekly and monthly reports to the leadership team based in Arizona, USA.

Mandatory Criteria:

  • Must be over 21 years of age

  • Quick thinker, proactive, motivated, open minded, easily adaptable to a fast paced working environment

  • Some form of experience in working with kids preferably in the humanitarian field or in the refugee context

  • Confident and strong leadership skills

  • Enthusiasm for working with children

  • Ability to be firm and decisive

  • Willing to try anything

Preferred:

  • Some form of language ability- arabic or Kurdish

  • Degree in social studies, international development or similar

  • Experience monitoring and evaluating programmes

Compensation:

  • Housing in shared accommodation offered

  • Small monthly living stipend provided
