At our Ada’s Haven DFV Refuge in Toowoomba, we provide women and children escaping DFV with urgent safe accommodation when they have nowhere else to go. 54 reasons is one of the largest providers of DFV refuge services in Queensland - be part of this dynamic network of teams working together to deliver high quality support to women and children escaping violence.

Where you come in:

In this part time, fixed term position (8 days per fortnight, through to end of June 2023, with strong potential for extension) based in Toowoomba, you’ll work within a team to provide specialist crisis support to children and their families within the DFV refuge program. You’ll provide crisis intervention and support to children who have witnessed domestic and family violence and collaborate with their carer, implementing our Child Centred Trauma Informed Framework. As part of the SEQ DFV Refuge team, you’ll work between 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday - Friday and will report to our Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

Directly supporting children and young people accessing crisis accommodation with their immediate needs after experiencing DFV Conducting individual and group activities that will support parent/child attachment and healthy development and transitions Enhancing child focused practice in the region both within 54 reasons and more broadly in the community Connecting families with the services they need and providing appropriate referrals

Does this sound like you?

You have experience within the domestic and family violence sector and are passionate about children’s rights. You know how to respond well in crisis and how to work with children who have experienced trauma. You’re able to work independently and take initiative while working within the role boundaries.

This role requires:

Degree qualification in Children’s Services or relevant Human Services field (there may be some flexibility on this requirement if you can demonstrate significant experience in a similar service) Solid understanding of child development and the impact of trauma on children and young people Demonstrated experience working with children and young people from a child-centred framework Current drivers’ licence
