Overview:
SB OverSeas is a non-profit organization working in Belgium and in Lebanon, assisting those escaping conflict through education and empowerment programs all while providing aid and raising awareness of the humanitarian crisis. SB OverSeas is looking for interns to join us in the Internship Programme for 2020. These internship positions are catered to individuals who are eager to develop their teaching skills as well as put into practice additional skills or interests in the field of empowerment development.
The internship includes an Arabic language course that helps elevate the interns ability to communicate in classrooms, immerse quicker into the community, and gain Arabic proficiency, a vital skill in the international field. These language courses take place twice a week and are catered to their specific level. Language certificates are provided
Primary tasks
Child Protection responsibilities:
Develop, create and lead hand-on activities for children who require psychological support
Carry out educational information and awareness-raising campaigns with the involvement of children with disabilities under the supervision of the psychologist
Provide safe and appropriate case management and referrals to psychologists
Under the supervision of psychologist, highlight cases for social media outlets to raise awareness about topics such as child abuse, early child marriage etc.
Generate a weekly and monthly status report to psychologist indicating success rate and progression of work (e.g number of activities run)
Teaching responsibilities:
Plan and deliver lessons in English, Maths and Science
Submit weekly lesson plans for each of the classes
Teach English to centre staff and tutoring children in need of extra support
Support extra-curricular activities for children, some taking place on the weekends
Attend training sessions and team meetings
Report to ESL Officer for teaching evaluations and supervision
Secondary tasks
Support staff with extra tasks such as organizing donations, planning celebrations, doing outreach and distribution
Provide an assessment of needs for children in centres
Develop an action plan to address needs assessment under the supervision of psychologist
Collect data safely and ethically under the supervision of psychologist
Essential Qualifications:
Experience working with refugees and at-risk individuals
High-level working English
Experience working with children
Experience working with mental health and topics related to mental health
Multi-national and humanitarian experience
