Feed the Children is currently recruiting for a Chief of Party (COP) for a USAID-supported program in Malawi.

The program is focusing on nutrition, food security and health along with water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).

Candidate for this position should be a senior level professional with a proven track record of successfully implementing and managing nutrition, food security, health and WASH programs in countries with a socio–cultural and economic situation similar to Malawi.

The COP will be responsible for oversight of the entire project, and will be required to work with various stakeholders, including high level government and USAID officials. This position provides analysis, post-award services, and financial and administrative oversight to ensure compliance with all USAID grant-specific reporting and compliance requirements.

The Chief of Party’s primary responsibilities are aimed at providing overall leadership, management and general technical direction of the entire program, ensuring an integrated vision among different components and actors, and a focus on achieving the results defined in the project cooperative agreement. This individual will be expected to identify issues and risks related to an on-going program in a timely manner, and suggest appropriate program and operational adjustments. This individual shall act as the key liaison between USAID/Malawi and all other counterparts and implementing partners involved with the program. The position requires significant financial and administrative oversight, coordination skills, broad general and technical knowledge, experience in developing countries and skills to ensure coherence and consistency in spite of urgent deadline and challenging circumstances and country context.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in international development, nutrition and health, non-profit management, or related field of study or equivalent work experience required.
  • Ten (10) years or more of progressively responsible international work experience implementing multi-sector development programs with demonstrated strong management and coordinating skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of USAID financial, administrative, procurement practices and compliance regimens.
  • At least five (5) years of management experience, including direct supervision of professional and support staff and assembling teams working on multi-faceted international development programs.
  • No less than five (5) years of experience in nutrition, food security, health and WASH.
  • Comprehensive, demonstrated knowledge of federal laws and guidelines governing federally funded grants administration.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing alliances with the private sector.
  • A familiarity with and commitment to addressing gender equality in project sectors is also required, as demonstrated by at least two years of senior-level experience working on projects that addressed gender-related constraints.
  • Demonstrated excellent communications and writing abilities and superior interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the socio-economic landscape of Malawi is preferred.
  • Fluent in English; fluency in Chechewa a plus.
  • Previous COP experience in Malawi a plus.
