Reporting to the CEO of the organization, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of SAJIDA Research and Evaluation department should be a top-notch organization builder with experience in management and an excellent track record of research and publications in the areas of social development and health.

The Role

The COO will define strategy and set the goals of SAJIDA’s Research and Evaluation Unit in consultation with SAJIDA’s senior management and other key stakeholders in fulfilling SAJIDA Foundation’s vision and mission. Beginning with the consolidation of existing research initiatives within SAJIDA Foundation and forming an in-house entity, the long-term goal is to establish a world-class research institution under the umbrella of the Foundation.

Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Set the vision and strategic plan for SRD to achieve SAJIDA Foundation’s short and long-term goals;
  • Lead the development of the multi-disciplinary research institution under the guidance of the governing body and advisory fellows of the institution and the management.
  • Form and lead a strong and cohesive team of researchers to carry out the Foundation’s research agenda;
  • Initiate research training programs for capacity building, both in house and external;
  • Develop mechanisms to work in collaboration with programs in a manner that the objectivity of research and their findings is ensured through the use of rigorous research methods and by maintaining research integrity;

Funding and Partnership

  • Secure external research funding;
  • Establish collaboration with national and international research organizations including universities;
  • Manage complex projects involving multiple partners, countries and disciplines.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration in research;
  • Utilize an extensive network to the benefit of the whole organization by engaging multiple stakeholders;

Scientific Leadership

  • Ensure knowledge translation for application of high-quality research in the decision-making process;
  • Develop a system of knowledge sharing within and outside SAJIDA Foundation;
  • Build and lead high performing interdisciplinary teams in a resource-limited setting;

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Academic credentials: PhD in a health-related discipline or social sciences;
  • Proven strength of building research organizations, mentoring young researchers and attracting large grants.
  • Minimum of 15-20 years’ experience as a researcher of international stature with a solid record of publications in peer-reviewed international journals.

Contract type:

  • This will be a long-term consultancy (2 to 3 years), extendable on mutual understanding
  • 60-80 hours in a month based in any location
  • Once or twice in a year mandatory visit to Bangladesh (if the applicant is based out of Bangladesh). Costs of visit(s) will be covered by SAJIDA Foundation
  • Each visit 2 to 4 weeks at a time

Compensation Package:

  • 90 to 120 USD per hour (negotiable based on profile and experience)
  • Additional incentives will be offered against key performance indicators specifically fundraising
  • Work permit and other logistics will be arranged by SAJIDA for non- Bangladeshi
  • Payment will be made in Bangladeshi taka, which can be remitted after Tax deduction
  • Tax will be deducted as per Bangladesh Tax rules
