General Background

The OEC: The Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC) is an international intergovernmental organisation, founded in January 2020 by countries from across the Global South, to “contribute to the equitable, just, and prosperous social transformation of societies by promoting balanced and inclusive education, in order to attain the fundamental rights to liberty, justice, dignity, sustainability, social cohesion, and material and immaterial security for the peoples of the world”.

The main functions of the Department of Public Relations and Engagement (PURE) are:

  1. Democratise and disseminate the UDBIE and the programmatic activities of the OEC;
  2. Bring attention to major issues of the OEC agenda, engaging with the general public to ensure its involvement and co-ownership through two-way communication channels;
  3. Build a strong presence of the OEC on digital platforms and develop durable relations and partnerships with the news media;
  4. Support other departments to achieve their goals through strategic communication.

Duties

The Public Outreach and Strategic Communications Section provides support to all Departments and thematic priorities of OEC to use a broad range of Strategic Communications tools to democratize, popularize and disseminate the Universal Declaration of Balanced and Inclusive Education to key stakeholders in OEC member states and beyond.
Under the overall supervision of the Under-Secretary-General, Public Relations and Engagement, the Chief of Section also works with different departments to develop, design and implement creative programs to popularize the mission, vision and priorities of OEC.

  • Lead in the development and implementation of a Public Outreach and Strategic Communications strategy for OEC
  • Lead the development and implementation of Public Outreach campaigns to to create greater awareness, understanding and support of the Universal Declaration of Balanced and Inclusive Education
  • Lead the production of OEC newsletters, publications and other visibility materials
  • Collaborate with other departments and support them to publicize their work in creative ways
  • Lead in developing and implementing online engagement strategies and PR and media strategies.
  • Conceptualize and produce content for digital platforms and ensuring quality control.
  • Develop a strong understanding of departmental and and OEC corporate vision, mission and strategies, and ensures they are integrated into communications and outreach activities
  • Identify, research, and write useful and engaging content for target audiences on OEC activities, including for social media outlets.
  • Identify and help coordinate OEC participation in global, regional and national education and development forums to showcase OEC technical expertise and technical contributions to Balanced and Inclusive Education
  • Mentor, supervise and appraise staff in the Section
  • Perform any other duties as required
