A day in the life of the Chief of Party in Sudan

This position has overall responsibility for the management of all project activities and staff in the Kassala Integrated Response Program (KIRP). The Chief of Party provides leadership, back-stop support, and direction to all Program Managers participating in the project in the accomplishment of the KIRP objectives and sub-objectives. S/he will be responsible for supervising project staff, overseeing project implementation, monitoring, reporting, managing the overall project budget, and representing Samaritan’s Purse Sudan to relevant stakeholders.

Job Duties

  • The Chief of Party (CoP) will direct and oversee the KIRP program ensuring proper, timely and quality implementation within given budgets and project deadlines. This includes proper planning, staffing, and implementation to meet program goals in compliance with international and Samaritan’s Purse standards and meet USAID rules & regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective project reporting, evaluation, and communication systems in collaboration with the Monitoring & Evaluation Manager.
  • Discuss plans and strategies with relevant stakeholders, including government authorities, UN agencies, other humanitarian actors and Samaritan’s Purse partners, to ensure proper understanding and coordination of project objectives.
  • Make regular visits to project field sites, providing staff support, addressing programmatic challenges, and exploring future program possibilities.
  • In collaboration with the Area Coordinator and Senior Programs Manager provide input on new project proposals and budgets.
  • Discern, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.
  • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public.

Qualifications & Experience

Masters degree (M.A.) in Economics, International Development, Social Studies, or other relevant discipline, with a minimum of 2 years of international emergency response experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A) from 4-year college or university in Economics, Development or Social Studies, with minimum of 6 to 8 years’ related international work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience working overseas, preferably in Africa. Field level management experience.

Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.
