The Care and Treatment Specialist will assist the Medical Director with the day-to-day management of Tingathe programming, contributing to strategic and technical implementation of the CORE program, across the six districts. S/he will work closely with program and district leadership in addition to partner organizations to ensure implementation of high-quality programming in order to achieve program goals and targets. S/he will work constructively with district leads and program leadership to set priorities, ensure program delivery occurs on schedule and within budget, and achieve program outcomes, and will contribute to building capacity of the team.

Exemplary responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Technical Program input

  • Regularly review literature to identify opportunities for integrating new “best practices” approaches into program activities across all technical areas; provide technical assessment and recommended strategies to team for discussion.

  • Contribute to technical and strategic thinking to improve service delivery across the HIV treatment cascade

  • Participate in regular Technical Working Groups with MOH and partner organizations as delegated

  • Lead development and coordination of CPD (continuing professional development) session materials for clinical and program staff, with collaborative input from district and program technical leadership

  • Program Management

  • Work with minimal supervision in collaboration with district leadership to implement key components of the Tingathe program with fidelity including planning, training, supportive supervision, monitoring and reporting including review and provision of feedback to districts on weekly performance reports. Regularly report a summary of program activities to the MD while consulting on important matters as necessary.

  • Track program delivery against work plan, providing regular feedback to program leadership and recommendations for course correction/adjustment as necessary

  • Develop and disseminate weekly team schedules

  • Facilitate weekly program meetings and disseminate action items/minutes

  • Review and approve program advance requests for funding, ensuring compliance with program conditions of service and against budget, in consultation with DCOP/Finance manager **

  • Supervision

  • In consultation with the Medical Director, conduct regular district visits to provide supportive supervision to district and site-level teams

  • Participate in site supervision at targeted health centers and help liaise with MOH and partner staff to achieve program goals

  • Assist district teams with development and implementation of supervision processes and provide support to district leads as requested

  • Ensure frequent and constructive feedback is provided regularly to district and facility level team members

  • Program Representation

  • Represent Tingathe program to relevant stakeholders as delegated

Candidate Profile

Applications are sought from experienced, mission-driven candidates who meet the following profile:

· The ideal candidate will be a Malawian citizen with a minimum of a science-related degree (ie. a degree in clinical medicine, nursing, or public health) or an MBBS or its equivalent. Candidates with a Health related Master’s Degree will have an added advantage.

· Candidates with 7+ year’s clinical experience treating patients with HIV will be at a significant advantage.

· Possession of a valid registration certificate from relevant professional regulatory bodies

· 5+ years’ experience in non-profit management leading implementation of HIV Programs

· Experience with PEPFAR/USAID funding a significant advantage

· Critical thinker with outstanding analytical abilities

· Excellent listening, writing, presenting and public speaking skills

· Demonstrated creativity and innovation in adapting to challenging clinical environments

· Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to motivate and direct staff

· Ability to assess talent and conduct interviews

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite is required; familiarity with SurveyCTO an advantage

· Willingness to travel frequently to all supported districts (30% of the time)

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Based in Lilongwe with frequent field work for supervision and training. Working hours are 8 hours per day and will include early AM, weekend and may include evenings at times. The job is physically demanding due to travel and outreach to rural health facilities and long working hours.
