Job Summary:

The Biomedical Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to the Technical Officer- Biomedical Engineer to identify technical assistance needs of the selected hospitals to install and maintain Liquid Oxygen (LOX) equipment and infrastructure; identify the need and details of the LOX system sustainability plan for targeted hospitals; support the provision of quality assurance during installation of LOX system and PSA plants.

The Biomedical Engineer should do the above in consultation with the Senior Biomedical Engineer, MoH officials, MoH Biomedical Engineers, existing national oxygen task force, and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of installation of oxygen piping in selected hospitals to outlets at patients’ beds.
  • Ensuring quality assurance processes are adhered during PSA plants and LOX system installation.
  • Facilitate training and capacity building of Biomedical Technicians and hospital maintenance staff to ensure sustainable maintenance of the medical oxygen infrastructure, monitoring, and safe delivery of oxygen.
  • Facilitate training of Health Facility staff on safety precautions and daily operations of LOX system.
  • Develop a supervision and infrastructure maintenance plan for all LOX facilities.
  • Develop the needs for infrastructure and equipment upgrade for select hospitals in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
  • Coordinate with MoH, District Management and key stakeholders to develop a sustainability plan for LOX supply, use and maintenance at facility level.
  • Support consolidation of facility sustainability plans for development of a national sustainability plan.
