The Supply Division oversees the procurement and logistics, including transport and warehousing, of strategic and essential supplies for children of some $6 billion annually. The Insurance Unit, in the Financial Management Centre, manages the insurance arrangements for all supplies in transit and in UNICEF warehouses and advises on risk management and insurance issues related to the UNICEF supply strategies.

The Warehouse Inventory and Management Centre (WIMC) at the UNICEF Supply Division contributes to the overall objective of ensuring timely access of good quality strategic supplies for children. WIMC manages efficient and effective warehouse operations in Copenhagen and the network of global hubs and coordinates with procurement centres and the Emergency Coordination Unit to ensure optimal stock levels to meet demand.

How can you make a difference?

Under the general guidance the Warehouse Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the receiving, storage, packing and loading operations in the Supply Division Warehouse in Copenhagen. The position may also be required to undertake field deployments to support the establishment of new warehouses and processes that contribute to UNICEF emergencies.

Key functions and responsibilities:

Carries out the loading and un-loading of trucks and containers. Carries out the receiving and put-away of shipments into the warehouse including quality control of packaging and palletization, error reporting, and rework of incoming shipments. Supports the picking operations on Pre-pick and De-pall with a view to procedures in place to ensure high quality of packing. Supports the packing operations on Long Lines, Mini-Load and Short Lines with a view to procedures in place to ensure high quality of packing. Supports the loading process with a view to procedures in place to ensure high quality. Performs general warehouse maintenance including cleaning of the warehouse and warehouse equipment. Participates in the annual physical inventory count. Assist in the establishment, and management of new warehouses to support CO/RO activities. Supervision of temporary laborers at SD warehouse and during emergency deployments. Performs any other duties as requested by the Supervisors.

Requirements:

Completion of Secondary Education. A minimum of 4 years of professional experience with at least two years of practical working experience within a warehouse environment. Fluency in English. Valid work permit and residency in Denmark at the time of submitting the application. Note that the selected candidate is responsible for obtaining any required extension of their residency permit as an extension cannot be dependent on an employment with UNICEF.

Desirables:

Forklift certificate. Basic computer skills (SAP and WMS). Microsoft Excel recommendable. Understanding of Goods Distribution Practice (GDP) procedures. Proficiency in another UN language (Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic).

Eligibility:

UNICEF staff members globally and applicants who are EU nationals or in possession of a valid work permit for Denmark are eligible to apply. General Service (GS) staff are personally responsible for any travel and accommodation arrangements and UNICEF will not cover any costs related to relocation.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments are also subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
