Purpose of Job

The Associate, Portfolio Manager position is central to the Bank’s structure of operations. In close cooperation with colleagues from other departments (Banking, Finance, Risk, OGC, Nuclear Safety, OCE, etc.), the Associate, Portfolio Manager oversees the process and approves all disbursements (including loans, equities, grants, etc.) and post-signing, leads the process of any required changes to legal documentation between the EBRD and its counterparties to ensure that all operational, legal and credit risks are minimised.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • The OAD team typically manage a portfolio of over 2,600 Banking operations which incorporate multiple product types.
  • Manages a portfolio of medium/complex projects which contain all types of Banking products both Bilateral and Co-Financed and undertakes all post signing tasks relating to that portfolio including disbursements, waivers, consents, notices, amendments, prepayments and cancellations, and reviews pre-signed drafts.
  • OAD manages the Bank’s annual business investment; projected EUR13.1bn in 2022.
  • Assist the team by providing work cover during the absence of colleagues.
  • Train newly hired colleagues, provide on-the-job mentoring and supervise/authorise their work to ensure high standards of work practices and objectives are met.
  • Review new and existing loan, equity, grant and hybrid project documentation to ensure the accuracy of all financial details and compliance with the Bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Check and approve disbursements of more junior staff to mitigate risks and losses by ensuring all procedures related to the disbursement process, are adhered to, acting as a guardian to ensure a consistently high standard of approval memoranda is presented to EBRD management.
  • Lead the internal approval process for waivers, consents, amendments and notices, draft relevant legal documentation in order to protect the interests of the Bank and eliminate potential events of default.
  • Facilitate the process of dealing with events of default with all necessary counterparties, to ensure all relevant procedures are implemented.
  • For Co-Financed projects, negotiate with B-lenders and parallel lenders to approve proposed waivers and amendments within tight deadlines. Reconcile the differences between the Bank’s transition impact goals and those of commercial banks driven by income and risk. Advise and negotiate waiver and agency fee levels.
  • Apply judgement and interpretation to lead the internal approval process and draft legal documentation for waivers, consents, amendments and notices in order to protect the interests of the Bank and eliminate potential events of default.
  • Demonstrate expertise in products, processes and/or procedures and lead interdepartmental special projects to become a centre of excellence for the benefit of the Bank.

    Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

    • Good degree, preferably in business, finance or law from a leading university in a country of operations, or equivalent experience.
    • Extensive proven knowledge and experience in working with banking products including term loans, revolving loans, trade facilities, syndicated loans, equities, funds, bonds, grants, parallel loans, guarantees.
    • Excellent problem solving, communication, presentations and inter-personal skills.
    • Proven ability in demonstrating a continuous improvement mind-set
    • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
    • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
    • Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, efficient multi-tasking and prioritisation skills.
    • Strong commercial orientation and awareness.
    • The ability to operate in an environment with continuously changing priorities and to resolve conflicts between various parties.
    • Sound knowledge of the Bank’s policies, procedures and mandate.
    • Understanding of the political, economic and social climate of the Bank’s countries of operation.
