The position is located in the SAP Systems Engineering team, Delivery in the ERP Project office of the United Nations Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance in New York.
The team is responsible for the effective operation of the system engineering, including SAP BASIS and SAP systems administration. The Associate Information Systems Officer (SAP Systems Engineering) will report to an Information Systems Officer.

Responsibilities

The post will reinforce capacity in the area of Systems and Landscape administration and optimization. The focus of this post will be to provide technical support for administration and maintenance of SAP applications and technical infrastructure including database management systems to ensure effective and reliable operations.
Within delegated authority, the Associate Information Systems Officer is responsible for the following duties:

  1. SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION AND MAINTENANCE:
  2. Participates in installation, maintenance and upgrade of various SAP applications, software and hardware related to the SAP solution across difference landscapes.
  3. Supports day-to-day operations to assure timely backup and recovery, disaster recovery, System copy and data refreshes; optimizes scheduling of releases and activity protocols ensuring the system's high availability, optimal performance and stability.
  4. Supports operation and maintenance of landscapes and environments of the Umoja solution through optimal BASIS administration and the related activities [including but not limited to Performance testing, background job management, transport management, network and infrastructure maintenance, load synchronization and enhancements, etc.].
  5. Participates in implementation of best practices and in establishing system standards; maintains technical documentation, policies and procedures.
  6. Assists in the maintenance, documentation, solution testing and administration of Umoja database layer comprised of SAP HANA and Oracle RDBMS technologies.
  7. Undertakes rigorous testing of the new features in SAP BASIS application and Infrastructure modules.
  8. Troubleshoots system performance problems.
  9. INFRASTRUCTURE-RELATED SUPPORT for the ERP system administration:
  10. Performs routine maintenance tasks for Infrastructure systems such as backups, printer setup, patch management and security hot fixes.
  11. Supports the processing infrastructure related service requests such as firewall rules amendment, DNS changes, new systems provisions, etc.
  12. Provides support for connectivity or related network/communication issues for the user and business teams communities.
  13. Monitors hardware/software activities and resource utilization for capacity planning.
  14. Documents infrastructure related issues, tracks status resolution.
  15. PRODUCTION SUPPORT
  16. Provides Tier 3 Production technical support.
  17. Monitors BASIS and Infrastructure related tickets and respond to service requests and incidents.
  18. Helps in the monitoring and troubleshooting of unexpected application behavior to ensure stability, security, recoverability of the SAP and related systems.
  19. Assists in the implementation, testing and documentation of Audit finding and recommendations.
  20. Performs other ad-hoc duties as required.

Education

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems or related field. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the Young Professionals Programme Examination(YPP)/United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of enterprise information systems is required.
Experience in application & infrastructure maintenance, process and workflow design, programming as well as administration of SAP implementation in SAP Public Sector environment is desirable.
Experience in SAP HANA and .VMWare technology is desirable

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
