Purpose of Job

The Associate Director, CTO Performance will report directly to the Director, Transformation Office. This role will play a key part in realising the Bank’s plans for transformation and delivering the overall work program of CTO. They will identify and target areas for improvement and efficiency, reporting on productivity and performance against set targets. They will advise teams on where processes can be sped up, and coach in agile methods to realise those gains. They will advise and support the Director, Transformation Office and the wider Vice Presidency in fulfilling their role. They provide drive, vision, strategy, and operational advice to the Vice President and act as a primary liaison between the Vice President and other internal Departments.

The role is also responsible for oversight of the CTO-wide budget, Risk Management and certain HR matters, advising the Vice President on these.

This role will be highly visible and influential, it will interact with the most senior managers in the Bank (The Board, ExCom and MD’s) as well as engaging with more junior staff to ensure a joined-up approach is taken.

The role supports the VP CTO management team and ensures smooth flow of information and consistency across the team in follow-up regarding management decisions.

Accountabilities

  • Manage a team of experts who will be responsible for the frameworks and oversight of the running of the CTO VP, including Performance, Finance, Agile Ways of Working, Risk, People
  • Lead the setup of a new Operations & Performance function (CoE) focused on optimising performance, speeding up delivery and providing the insight on transformation realisation.
  • Accountable for ensuring that optimisation of performance, agile ways of working are embedded into the VP CTO portfolio and are monitored
  • Provide both the data for and insight on KPI’s from the transformation effort and roadmap
  • Act as a hub (or Center of excellence) advising, monitoring and supporting the wider CTO team and other teams/projects in the Bank in areas and best practise related to agile, risk and new ways of working. Ensure performance tools, metrics and best practises are embedded beyond CTO through CTO change network.
  • The role will need to be influential and proactive, identify areas for productivity improvements, defining the standards and methods used to address them and monitoring their success
  • Act as a centre of excellent for agile and new ways for working, owning the processes and methods teams can deploy as well as measuring their impact
  • Be the information hub for team performance and productivity, providing insight and monitoring of key metrics
  • Coordinate and drive implementation of the CTO’s strategy and business planning;
  • Assist the coordination and implementation of agreed CTO directions and priorities within the Bank's larger corporate strategic framework
  • Ensure appropriate, consistent follow-through on actions, decisions and commitments made by the Vice President, by working with the parties responsible for implementation;
  • Accountable for ensuring that the correct risk and mitigation assessment is completed against plans by working closely with the Risk Management team. Analyse and assess the findings for the VP CTO to review
  • Assessment and comment on ExCom and other committee presentations to ensure the VP CTO is well prepared
  • Exercise judgement on which issues to bring to the CTO’s attention. Act as gatekeeper for the CTO to preserve their time and energy, where possible solving problems of a cross-cutting nature effectively representing the CTO and/or the Group across the organisation as delegated by the CTO;
  • Ensure the preparation of high-quality briefing notes for various counterparts within the Bank as required.

    Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

    • Educated to degree level or significant relevant experience
    • Experienced manager of people, financial oversight, processes and systems
    • Experience of different delivery models including implementation of Agile methodologies.
    • Experience in project or programme management and change management would be advantageous
    • Demonstrated, strong analytical and decision-making skills when dealing with highly complex material
    • Strong stakeholder management skills
    • Proven ability to influence and work well with others, with the personal authority to effectively harness the cooperation of peers across departments;
    • Demonstrated judgement skills and a track record of strong solution-orientation and problem-solving;
    • Political awareness and diplomatic skills, in order to influence a wide range of stakeholders.
