Major Function

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks an Associate Development Officer to join a dynamic team of fundraisers in the 10-state Western Region. For almost 60 years, WWF has been protecting life on our planet, fighting to restore species and places in more than 100 countries. Working closely with a core team based in the WWF-US San Francisco office, the Associate Development Officer will play a key role in expanding major gifts support from individuals. This passionate individual will collaborate with program and development colleagues across the US to craft and employ strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at the major gift level ($25,000 or more.)

Location is negotiable within the state of California, with a strong preference to be based in greater San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles Metro Area.

Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of 100+ current and prospective donors with the capacity to make a gift of $25,000 or more. Employ creative cultivation strategies to build upon relationships with current donors and prospects to build a robust donor base in the western region.Work with Western Region management team to develop an ambitious strategic plan, including setting annual goals and key outcomes for the region.Qualify prospects for interest in giving to WWF and capacity to give at the major gift level through substantive contacts and visits.Partner with donors and development events team to execute events and represent the organization at community building and networking events.Collaborate closely with program staff to align donor interests with organizational priorities in a way that supports WWF’s conservation goals and builds deep donor engagement with the organization.Partner with development communications to produce proposals, reports and other donor materials as needed.Monitor giving from the managed portfolio and ensure all assigned donors are solicited for annual commitments, as well as major, multi-year commitments.Accompany donors and prospective donors on trips to visit WWF projects in the field as requested.Undertake special projects as requested.Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must have at least 2 years’ experience in a donor facing role.Bachelor's degree preferred or must have 4 additional years of relevant work experiencePassion for WWF’s mission. Knowledge of conservation issues a plus.Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and best practices of non-profit major gifts development (or a closely related relationship management process).Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skillsA work style that includes self-motivation and flexibility with the ability to manage projects, set priorities, and work within deadlines.Success working as an effective team member and within a collaborative culture.Intellectual curiosity and sense of humor.Must be willing to travel within western region approximately 40% of the time.Committed to building and strengthening a culture of inclusion within and across teams.Identifies and aligns with WWF’s core values: Courage, Integrity, Respect, and Collaboration: Demonstrates courage by speaking up even when it is difficult, or unpopular.Builds trust with colleagues by acting with integrity, owning mistakes, and holding oneself accountable.Welcomes other points of view and ideas, recognizing and embracing different and contrary perspectives with kindness, curiosity, and encouragement.Makes conscious efforts to promote cooperative practices, behaviors, and ways of working across many groups and individuals.
