Organizational Context

The position sits in UNHCR's Division of External Relations, Digital Engagement Section, Digital Workplace and Knowledge Services Unit (DWKS).

The DWKS unit is responsible for the coordination of content and overview of the information structure of the Digital Workplace's intranet, communities of practices and internal digital engagement supporting the UNHCR workforce.

The Digital Workplace will enable colleagues to work from anywhere in a way that seamlessly transcends the physical workplace. In effect, getting work done and meeting with colleagues should be as frictionless as possible regardless of physical location and device.

Purpose and Scope

The Associate Community Officer will be an essential part of Digital Workplace, overseeing the Community of Practices on SharePoint, Yammer or any other platform, providing guidance to community managers and users on how to engage with audiences and how to device campaigns for long-term engagement.

In particular, the incumbent will assist on the following:

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing key guidance material on digital community engagement for users and community managers
  • Assist community managers to implement long-term digital engagement strategies
  • Assist in developing and updating online community platforms
  • Liaise with colleagues within UNHCR to identify possible online engagement practices
  • Collect user feedback from Yammer and SharePoint sites
  • Act as a helpdesk for user queries
  • Keep abreast of developments in the digital landscape that may enhance engagement
  • Any other related duties as required

Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism or Communications

Work Experience

  • It is required that applicants have experience of social media and user engagement with proven results. It is essential that the applicant has written for digital channels. Applicants must have a comprehensive understanding of the range of web communication, knowledge management and social media platforms and its technologies
  • 3 years of social media channel experience in a creative environment, or 2yrs for Master’s degree holders
  • Experience of providing training
  • Proven ability to write clear, attractive, and compelling copy with a distinct brand voice and calls to action
  • Proven ability to multitask projects and meet deadlines consistently
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity
  • Experience in project management including planning and schedule creation
  • Experience with Online platforms and online communities

Key Competencies

Required competencies:

  • Fluency in English both written and spoken.
  • Fluency in French or Spanish is an advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience of digital engagement.
  • Knowledge of information and knowledge management techniques and tools.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Aptitude to function within deadlines, while working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Location and Conditions

The successful candidate will be based in Budapest, Hungary.

This position is initially up to the end of the year with possibility of extension. It is a full-time role starting from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).
