Organizational Setting

The post is typically located in the Security Services of the Corporate Services at FAO headquarters in Rome or in a Decentralized Office. The Security Services aim to assure a safe and secure operating environment and ensure continuity of operations in FAO headquarters and in the field, by protecting the integrity of premises and assets and the security of staff members and other subjects present in the FAO premises from harmful acts and accidents or natural and technological hazards.

Main Purpose


The Assistant Security Supervisor (Sergeant) supports the control of all daily security services and the supervision of security personnel on duty. He/she monitors installed security equipment, systems and procedures and provides immediate assistance to security emergencies.

Supervision Received/Exercised


The Assistant Security Supervisor (Sergeant) works under the direct supervision of the headquarters' Security Coordinator Officer and receives guidance from the Security Supervisor. He/she acts independently on day-to-day security operations. Supervision received is focused on the quality of the execution of security and safety services with the supervisor providing technical advice. The incumbent is responsible for the coordination of junior security staff.

Working Relationships
The Assistant Security Supervisor (Sergeant) is in frequent contact with staff and visitors at FAO headquarters, as well as with security staff on all levels, monitoring and ensuring technical and administrative security procedures and requirements.

Key Functions/Results


•    Monitors and coordinates the work of a team of security guards at FAO, acting as a role model in the performance of security services.
•    Ensures that functions are covered at all times and on a daily basis assigns duties to security staff, including fire control and physical security of the premises, staff safety and first aid procedures, use of equipment and operation of the automated alarm and video surveillance systems; where possible resolves problems or escalates them to supervisors, as appropriate.
•    Monitors the performance of duties of security staff throughout the premises.
•    Monitors the internal alarm system on site; monitors the video- and electronic control surveillance systems in the Control Room, alerting operating and emergency staff and supervisors, as appropriate.
•    Responds to staff security emergencies and provides and/or organizes immediate assistance; contacts emergency services outside working hours and performs first aid, if/as required.
•    Reports any incidents occurring during the shift in the security reports database and related technical interventions required/undertaken.
•    Ensures security and safety measures during special events on FAO premises.
•    Performs other related duties as required.

Impact Of Work


The Assistant Security Supervisor's work has a direct impact on the timely and efficient delivery of the work unit's administrative and security support services for the successful achievement of the Security Services' mandate.


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

Education: Secondary School Education.
Experience: Five years of experience with a national or international police force, armed forces, a private security organization, fire brigade or security service of a large organization, or in a position requiring high security, confidentiality and total integrity. Experience in managing small teams and a limited number of assets.
Languages: Working knowledge (proficient - level C) of English and Italian.
IT Skills: Basic knowledge of the MS Office applications, Internet and office technology equipment.

Residency: General Service Staff are recruited locally. To be eligible for this position, candidates must be nationals of the country of the duty station or possess an existing visa/work permit, and reside within commuting distance of the duty station at the time of the application. \"Commuting distance\" means the distance within which staff members can travel daily between their place of work and their residence.
