UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering an Assistant PPH Officer position within the Private Partnerships & Philanthropy Section of the Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) within the Division of External Relations.

Organizational Context

Based at UN City in Copenhagen, UNHCR’s Private Sector Partnership Service (PSP) supports the Agency’s global collaboration with the private sector through its network of fundraisers and national associations in almost 30 operations in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East and Gulf region. The ambitious new PSP Global Strategy 2018-2025 has the vision to grow PSP into a service capable of generating $1B annually. In this context, high-level events and global forums and platforms for private-public engagement are prioritized areas of work due to their potential to help increase UNHCR's visibility, attract new donors, strengthen partnerships and eventually raise significant income for under-funded areas of work. This role will be part of the Private Philanthropy Unit (PPU) which sits within the Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) Section.

Purpose and Scope

In particular, the incumbent will assist members of the PPU with priority areas including:

• Creation and launch of a Global Citizen programme

• Women in Philanthropy (WiP) project

• Middle to major donor transition

• Ongoing work around ultra / high net worth individuals (U/ HNWIs), Gifts in Wills and In Memory giving

• Donor intelligence, including prospect research and mapping (national, regional and global level) of U/ HNWIs

Duties and responsibilities

• Prospect research and mapping potential U/ HNWIs, high level WiP and HNW influencers

• Analysis of potential growth sectors for U/HNWIs including global citizens, WiP, ‘next generation’, wealth advisors and family foundations

• Support to colleagues with research and identification of potential national, regional and global U/HNWIs, W in P and HNW influencers who can help secure donors

• Supporting with Leading Women’s Advisory committee (external) and the Reference Group (internal) as appropriate

• Desk study into the development of strategy and assets for recognition as part of the Major Gift Strategy (MGS), use as the basis of a paper on Donor Recognition. To include recommended process, other UN agencies, INGO and NGOs affiliation schemes, giving groups and recognition systems

• Ongoing support for the development and roll out of PPH’s MGS

• Gatekeeper for:

o Honorary Titles: supporting markets through the process of application, confirmation, renewal and, or ending of a Title

o PPU Toolkits & Guidance assets

o PPU’s SharePoint site

o PPU’s Salesforce entries

• General support with core PPU activities including, middle to major donors, liaison with IP colleagues to ensure a coordinated approach and one-off projects as appropriate

• Supporting the promotion and distribution of examples of best practice for Gift in Wills, focusing on major donor pledgers and ongoing cultivation of widowers, next of kin, executor of legators

• Administrative support to PPU - coordinator for cultivation and stewardship communications and events, as part of MGS and WiP plans

• Support with identifying trends in the private philanthropy universe

• Support colleagues within the PPU in regular tasks and updates, plus any other activities as requested by the head of PPU.

Monitoring & Progress Controls

• Create a uniformed process of mapping potential HNW influencers, networkers and donors

• Use of this mapping process to prioritise individuals and groups within countries, regions and globally

• Record and keep up to date all potential influencers, networkers and donors on SharePoint

• Organize, coordinate and minute the monthly, global Major Donor Chats

• Complete a paper on Donor Recognition

Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in international relations, business management, communications, or other relevant fields of studies.

Work Experience:

• One year of relevant experience in combination with a relevant bachelor’s degree

• Related experience can include marketing, communications, PR and, or customer focused work.

Key Competencies

• Good understanding of private sector partnerships and philanthropy, especially major donors fundraising, and partnership management

• Capacity to manage multiple stakeholders, an aptitude for formal and informal networking; and to build trust with internal and external partners

• Ability to thrive in a team environment, and to work within an international multi-cultural team

• Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task

• Solid ability to plan and to make decisions without supervision

• Strong computer skills (MS Office, SharePoint, BI tools etc.) and awareness of digital technologies**

• Ability to manage a stressful work environment

• Knowledge of another UN language other than English is desirable

Location

The successful candidate will be placed in the UN City, Copenhagen-Denmark. This position is initially up to the end of the year with possibility of extension. It is a full-time role starting from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).
