Lifting Hands International is looking for an ASSISTANT DIRECTOR starting 1st of May 2020 for our refugee center in Serres, a small town about an hour away from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. There, we work with a population of 1000+ yazidi refugees, providing regular aid distributions and a wide range of psycho-social services.

As Assistant Director you would work closely with the director and other assistant director to lead and empower the members of our management team and to generally ensure the health and success of our Serres programs. The role is somewhat flexible, depending upon your precise qualifications, interests, and experience. However, your primary responsibilities will likely include:

  • Overseeing the Education program and Arts & Recreation program together with the program manager

  • Coordination of Volunteer Recruitment (check-ins with the Volunteer Coordinator)

  • Running Volunteer Orientations and supporting Team Management efforts

  • Ensuring effective monitoring of volunteer satisfaction and engagement

  • Ensuring successful execution of daily operations

  • Assisting the director in running meetings

  • Helping with strategic planning efforts to examine and improve higher-level endeavors

  • Coordinating and planning ad hoc projects

  • Facilitating community engagement and integration processes

The ideal candidate would be someone with experience in the field of humanitarian aid who is 1) interested in helping us sustain and improve the services we offer to our refugee beneficiaries, 2) excited for the opportunity to make a large impact at a small and growing NGO, and 3) considering a future career in humanitarian aid or nonprofit work.

Requirements:

  • Can commit for at least six months

  • At least a year of management experience

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Proven ability to work in a self-directed way without constant supervision

  • Program management experience is essential

  • Relevant degree(s) in a related field a plus

  • Background in Education a plus

  • Interest in trauma informed programs, fitness and music a plus
