Job description

Energising Development (EnDev) is an energy partnership programme financed by four donors – Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. EnDev aims to facilitate access to modern energy services for poor households, social infrastructure and small businesses in a sustainable way.

With co-finance from the EU, EnDev in Malawi is going to implement the Make Energy Work! component. It aims at market development for needs-based, climate-friendly technologies and services for productive use of energy (PUE). On the supply side this will be achieved through result-based-financing (RBF) and business development support (BDS) for PUE companies and on the demand side through outreach activities, capacity development and market-linkages for PUE customers/users. These activities will be framed through cooperation with Malawian universities, private sector associations and the government to create an enabling environment for the PUE sector. Through these interventions the project aims to help lifting the PUE market from the pre-commercial to the pioneering phase.

Your tasks

Support the head of the project in the overall management and conceptual design of the project as well as shared-responsibility for quality assurance of service provision Implemention of the operational plan of activities together with the other team members and coordination with the implementing partners and the partnering PUE companies Represent the project vis-à-vis partnering GIZ projects, PUE companies, the Malawian government, donors and other implementing organisations, and achieve an open, trusting and professionally sound cooperation with our partners and clients Reporting in accordance with the requirements of the commissioning party Projekt-related communication and visibility to donors, partners, other national and regional stakeholders and the wider public Active contribution to knowledge and information management as well as monitoring and reporting and public relations (including social media content) Collaboration in the conceptual development of innovative approaches and in the creation of concepts for business development

Your profile

Advanced university studies in the field of renewable energy, agriculture, social science, economics, or comparable relevant qualification Several years of professional experience in the energy sector, preferably in development cooperation Technical understanding of the potentials of PUE appliances for agribusiness and the ability to convey this in an understandable manner to different audiences Experiences in the agricultural sector (e.g., linking agribusinesses to markets, agribusiness models, linking farmer groups with the private sector) is desirable Working experiences with GIZ including knowledge on project management and/or knowledge of EU procedures are an advantage Fast understanding of complex situations, problem solving mindset with the ability to prioritize and separate relevant from less relevant matters, high level of commitment as well as efficient self-, time and process management A high level of engagement, team spirit, reliability, intercultural and gender sensitivity, and sound diplomatic skills Strong writing and oral presentation skills in English. German language skills are an advantage
