A) POSITION SUMMARY

The Accountant is responsible and reports to the Regional Head of Finance and Administration and the Finance Officer who will assign duties as appropriate, under the overall supervision of the Regional Head of Finance and Administration.

The ‘ACCT’will work closely with all Country Offices, and Regional finance staff.

B) PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Ensure that there is proper management of the data file and the appropriate filing of the electronic and hard copies of the financial documents and reports.

· Support in the preparation of the monthly financial report based on the accounting templates , with all necessary justifying documentation (invoice, bank statements and receipts etc).

· Provide support to eensure a regular monitoring of the bank account(s) and transactions.

· Carry out the calculation of the payroll, for all staff on the basis of valid contracts.

· Prepare the internal invoices for the assets to be purchased, mmaintain payment record of all invoices received.

· Maintain TAX and NSIF statement records for all staff ensuring compliance

· Carry out payments of all regular area office expenses such as office rental, telephone bills, advances, etc.

· Prepare the planning of the financial needs for forthcoming periods.

· Ensures sufficient availability of funds in the office bank accounts and cash by consulting with colleagues.

· Maintains the petty cash box, with all due accounting and security precautions.

C) IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor degree/B.COM/or equivalent in accounting or finance is required. An advanced degree is preferred.

· Minimum of three years of progressive financial management experience is required

· Professional qualification in accountancy such as ACCA or Certified Public Accountant(stage 2).

· Minimum three years of experience from an international NGO is required; international NGO field office experience is preferred.

· Demonstrated experience and skills with budget preparation and analysis, financial reporting preparation and presentation and the proven ability to translate technical financial data into informative reports.

· Strong accounting skills and experience, including management of general ledger, journal entries, payroll, payables and balance sheet.

· Advanced computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly Excel

· Prior staff supervisory experience and strong organizational skills are desired

· Excellent oral and written English skills.

· Previous knowledge of Quickbooks and any other accounting software is a great advantage

· A demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing program activities is necessary.

· An impeccable professional standard of finance and procurement ethics as well as the willingness and ability to enforce compliance with SIHA Network and donor policies and procedures is essential.
