Action Against Hunger has been present in Cameroon since 1998. Since 2014, our interventions are mainly in the Eastern Region and the Far North of the country on emergency programs initiated with Central African refugees and affected host communities by socio-political unrest in CAR and violence related to Boko Haram activity in the Lake Chad region. ACF has set up long-term nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene programs with the support of ECHO and SIDA for more than 150,000 beneficiaries. Since the end of 2018, ACF, under the name of Action Against Hunger (AAH), is also present in the South-West, in support of the crisis that rages in this region.
There are around 200 employees on the mission, spread over 5 bases: Batouri in the East, Maroua and Kousseri in the Far North, Buéa in the South West and coordination in Yaounde.
Cameroon is a fairly stable country.
BUEA
The Health and Nutrition Programme Manager (PM) will be based in Buea in a common Guest House with a single room but with modest amenities. He/She will make frequent trips to follow up on the programmes, but also for exploratory missions in the region.
Depending on the evolution of the security situation, the Health and Nutrition PM will have to constantly adapt the program implementation approach (deployment of mobile teams) and supervise a team composed of a Deputy Manager, Health and Nutrition Supervisor, nurses and midwives from mobile clinics, the MHCP team, and community mobilization facilitators.
Buéa remains an area of great vigilance with the presence of Boko Haram fractions on the border with Nigeria, even if the INGOs are not directly targetted. The security context remains unstable with frequent lockdowns.
Your main responsibility will be to establish and manage a nutrition and health program integrating a mental health and care practices component (MHCP), community approaches “Integrated Community Case Management” (iCCM +) and MUAC/Oedemas Mothers.
More precisely, you will be in charge of:
Establish and supervise activities in the framework of nutritional projects; management of the project cycle in nutrition and health, meeting the objectives of AAH in the health centres dealing with malnutrition, the quality of the programme for which you are responsible of, ...Organise staff development programmes for the ACTION AGAINST HUNGER teams; evaluation of the technical skill level of the AAH teams, identification of training needs, skills development, and ensuring the quality and pertinence of training programmes established for the AAH teamsTrain and manage the programme team Develop and direct operationsRepresent AAH and develop local partnershipsYou hold a degree in nursing, or general medicine, with two years or more of professional experience in a similar Health and Nutrition programme management role, with at least a year of experience in an emergency context.
Furthermore, you have a confirmed experience in managing, capacity building and the transfer of knowledge to your teams.
You have an excellent knowledge of the english language, the project cycle management, and strong analytical, synthesis, and writing skills.
A former ACF experience, an understanding of the Cameroun context,and a good knowledge of the community health & nutrition approaches will be considered as an asset for this position.
