Background

The key role of the National Stress Counsellor is to build a sustainable stress management system in the UN Offices operating in country and to strengthen critical incident stress management preparedness of the UN security management system (UNSMS), through a comprehensive stress management plan that focuses on probable emergencies. Under the administrative supervision of the Chief Security Advisor (CSA), INDONESIA and the technical  supervision of the CISMU,UNDSS Regional Stress Counsellor in New York, the locally based counsellor will implement a wide range of stress management activities, through the implementation of the UNDSS CISMU strategic framework on critical incident stress prevention and management outlined in the policy on Management of Stress and Critical Incident Stress (MSCIS-2015) that encapsulates the United Nations Standard Operating Procedure on critical incident stress management.

The primary responsibility of the UNDSS Stress Counselor will be to develop a sustainable stress management system, providing psychosocial support services to UN AFP personnel in Indonesia, and to  improve the critical incident stress management preparedness of the UN security management system for staff members and for PSEA?  I got this from UNDSS stress counsellor in other country. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:

Under the direct supervision of the CSA/ DSA, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

 Any other miscellaneous UN duties as assigned by UNDSS CSA/ DSA offices INDONESIA.

The key results have an impact on the UNSMS staff, wellbeing and safe operation/ services to all UN staffs in Indonesia, and their dependents.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in in Psychology (Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology) or any social sciences or medical related discipline will be required; or 
  • Advanced university degree* in Psychology (Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology) would be desirable, but it is not a requirement. 
  • Certification or country-specific licensure (if applicable) as a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist authorizing the incumbent to deliver mental health services;

*NB: Master’s Degree in Psychology obtained after a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or any social sciences or medical related discipline or a Medical Degree as the first degree and a post-graduate degree / specialization in Psychiatry (MD) would be preferable. 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience for candidate with Master degree OR 6 years of professional experience for candidate with Bachelor degree in particular in the area of psychological counselling, psychotherapy for trauma and critical incident stress;
  • Additional certification, training or experience in alcohol/substance abuse, stress management, critical incident stress, harassment and employee grievance handling
  • Experience in cross-cultural service provision, psychosocial programming and or mental health policy development would be an asset;
  • Well-developed cross-cultural communication, leadership and team-building skills;
  • Experience with the United Nations is desirable.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in the UN and national language of the duty station.
